I remember, when I was in high school, we spent enormous amounts of time preparing for math competitions. I think I was after school every day (of course, I was a bit of a geek ).

What's it like these days? Do students spend time practicing problem solving skills outside of class/homework?

*Sigh* It's not like the good ol' days. I remember what you are talking about - it was always great when I could stay after an school an extra two hours, and could use the time to work on math team problems. Unfortunately, at least at my school, it's like pulling teeth to get kids to come in to work on problems. I have a few who come in, but not like I used to do when I was in high school.

In my experience, all of the above keep students from school work in general, math team in particular.
